The differences between Visual Basic (VB) and the Visual Basic for Applications included in PowerPoint and other Office programs are fairly minor.
You can't copy and paste just any VB code into PowerPoint and expect it to work, but when in doubt, try it! The odds are very good that it'll work just fine.
Randy Birch's VBnet is an unbelievably deep resource for VB code. Despite the name, this is classic VB, not Dot Net.
And don't forget that because VBA in the various Office apps and VB share so much in common, you might find just the code you need for your PowerPoint or VB project on Dev Ashish's Access site. I know I have. So start at http://www.mvps.org/ and browse a bit.
